Cinema Ritrovato on Tour in Detroit

Il CINEMA RITROVATO ON TOUR
                            DETROIT 2019

A FESTIVAL OF RESTORED RARE AND CLASSIC FILMS FROM THE CINETECA DI BOLOGNA, ITALY

Il Cinema Ritrovato on Tour returns to Detroit! Join us on November 29-December 1, 2019 at the Detroit Film Theatre.
Each summer, the Cineteca di Bologna, one of the most renowned centers for film restoration, presents a film festival featuring an array of cinematic gems: newly restored classics enjoying their second life, rarities from world film archives, films in black and white and in color, documents and documentaries, silent films with live musical accompaniment and film produced throughout the sound era, 35mm prints as well as brand new digital restorations. During the festival, titled Il Cinema Ritrovato (Rediscovered Cinema), more than 400 titles are presented in six cinemas and on a giant screen at a free outdoor screening in Piazza Maggiore, in Bologna. The fifteenth century piazza turns into a 2,000-seat open-air movie theater for the entire summer (for a festival called Sotto le Stelle del Cinema). Il Cinema Ritrovato has been defined as “pure heaven for cinéphiles.” The next edition will take place from June 20th to June 28th, 2020.
A selection of the Cinema Ritrovato titles will be presented in Detroit, at the prestigious Detroit Film Theatre (DFT) of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) between November 29 and December 1, 2020. For further details, visit our program page.

This event is made possible thanks to the close collaboration between the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna, the organization Friends of the Cineteca di Bologna, the Detroit Film Theatre, and the Consulate of Italy in Detroit. The program is curated by Guy Borlée (Cineteca di Bologna) and Elliot Wilhelm (Detroit Film Theater), in collaboration with Pierluigi Erbaggio (Consulate of Italy in Detroit).

Special thanks to Maria Manca (Consul of Italy in Detroit), and to Gian Luca Farinelli, Andrea Meneghelli, and Carmen Accaputo (Cineteca di Bologna).
